3-hour Assessment & Diagnosis CE opportunity for counseling professionals and students, held *in-person* at the Belle Chasse Branch Library on Friday, July 31, 2026, @ 9:30a – 12:30p CT.
This 3-hour continuing education event will provide information that will help providers build a foundational ability to assess and manage suicide risk among patients. This will involve a discussion of the problem of suicide in the United States, including among certain high-risk groups and debunking common myths about suicide risk. Attendees will also learn about common assessment measures that can be used for screening individuals at varying degrees of suicide risk, as well as scientifically-informed practices for mitigating suicide risk.

1. Describe the prevalence of suicide in the United States, including among certain high risk socio-demographic groups.
2. Identify appropriate, validated tools for assessing suicide risk.
3. Discuss evidence-based strategies for managing suicide risk (e.g., Safety Planning Intervention, Lethal Means Safety Counseling).
