3-hour Assessment & Diagnosis CE opportunity for counseling professionals and students, held *in-person* at the Belle Chasse Branch Library on Friday, October 2, 2026, @ 9:30a – 12:30p CT.
This 3-hour continuing education event will examine crisis presentations as trauma symptoms/responses from a neurological perspective, and how to use this framework to facilitate supportive conversation during de-escalation while reducing the risk of re-traumatization. Participants will engage in skills practice within small break-out groups to further integrate theory and techniques for verbal crisis de-escalation.
Learning Objectives:
- Build an understanding of the development of the crisis state of brain functioning
- Differentiate between trauma responses vs. “bad day” and what occurs in the brain for trauma symptoms to appear
- Gain skills in utilizing active listening and non-violent communication as trauma communication
- Understand and practice verbal de-escalation skills
- Review of local resources
